St. Louis Gate

This medieval structure known in French as Porte Saint-Louis and the similar St. Jean Gate, or Porte Saint-Jean create gateways to enter Downtown Quebec City in the only walled city in North America. St. Louis Gate dates back to 1880 and was designed by architect William Lynn in the location that two other fortification walls stood before being taken down. It is one of four remaining gates in Quebec City with other two being Prescott and Kent gates. All the fortifications make up a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site and National Historic Site of Canada.
