Nicknamed "The Gateway to the West" and the "St. Louis Arch," this 630-foot tall monument is a symbol of St. Louis. Gateway Arch was designed by Eero Saarinen constructed from 1963-65. The structural impressionism stainless steel masterpiece is the world's tallest arch and the United States' tallest man-made monument. It was built to commemorate the westward expansion of the United States and is situated next to the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
