Indiana State Capitol

The grandest example of Neo-Classical architecture in Indiana, this state capitol uniquely houses all three branches of the state's government. Indiana white oak and limestone from local quarries were used to construct the exterior, and the interior, modeled in the Italian Renaissance style, utilized mostly local materials. A large central rotunda, meticulously restored in the 1980's, provides a striking focal point for admirers. A stroll across the lawn provides a social and political history of the state, with monuments in tribute to important figures, economic activities and events. Free guided tours are available daily.
