Shasta Dam

The 602-foot tall concrete dam crosses the Sacramento River in Northern California. Shasta Dam was constructed from 1938-45 and created the largest reservoir in the state with Shasta Lake. After it was built, it was the second tallest dam in the United States behind the Hoover Dam. Shasta Dam now ranks as the ninth tallest in the U.S. It not only creates hydroelectricity, but stores water and helps with flood control.
