Harlem

This neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan has long been known for its large African American population, cultural attractions and businesses. Harlem originated as a Dutch village in 1658 taking its name from Haarlem in the Netherlands. Harlem is filled with cultural landmarks including the Cotton Club, Savoy, Apollo Theater, Sylvia's Restaurant of Harlem, 125th Street, Duke Ellington Circle, Lenox Lounge and the Hotel Theresa.
