Q: Hi. I notice in the fine print that you also charge a minimum of $6 per person per day for the tour guide! Huh? What's the $132 for then? Is it possible to NOT have a guide? ...... Thought so.....! How can it NOT be part of the price then? Bizarre. Might we also be paying for petrol or wear and tear on the bus tires? Why not price this honestly and say it's $150 then ($132 plus 3 X $6!!). Might it be more than $6 per day? When? Which tours? Why? The $6 ISN'T an option, so it's a MUST. The price for the tour is for:
Package Includes- Complimentary pick-up and drop-off to chosen location (see Pick-up Time and Locations)
- 2-night hotel accommodation
- Ground transportation in air-conditioned tour coach
- Professional tour escort
Package Excludes
- All personal expenses including hotel room service and meals; however, you have the option to pay for meals that tour guide arranges
- Admission or Optional tours (Prices may vary due to different seasons and is subject to the final price on the box office.):
-Maid of the Mist (APR - Oct24): Adult $13.50 Child $7.85
*Price covers access to observation tower, rain poncho, and the 30 minute boat ride.
*It's the same both that leaves on both the Canadian and American side.
*Able to view the 3 main falls: Horse shoe, American, and Bridal Falls.
-Corning Glass Center : Adult: $14.00 Child under 19 years:free -IMAX Movie (Niagara Falls): Adult:$11.00 Child: $8.00 -President Museum: Adult:$21.00 Child: $15.00 - Service fees for tour guide (min. $6.00/day per person)
It is mandatory to pay for the service fees to the tour guide and bus driver as this is a fully guided bus tour and these fees are paid directly to them on tour (therefore the separation of payment). Just like tips, you don't pay them in advanced to a company, you pay them to the person providing the service. As for the minimum of $6 per person per day, it is the same as when you dine out in groups of 8 or more, they charge 15% as a minimum service fee (standard for dine-in restaurants in the US). The tour guide is taking groups of 55 passengers and therefore are earning their right to be paid for their services on tour. If you feel like paying them more than $6 per person, per day, you are welcome to do so and it would be a nice compliment to how well they are doing.
If you do not wish to have a tour guide on tour, you may wish to consider taking an independent travel tour instead in order to not pay for the service fees to the tour guide and bus driver:

During your free time in the afternoon on the second day of the tour, you can choose the optional In-depth San Francisco Sight Seeing Tour, visit some friends, or enjoy other sights or activities during this free time in the afternoon. Details will be provided to passengers on tour by the tour guide. Depending on the availability of the Alcatraz tour, you may or may not be able to visit Alcatraz.
Please inform your tour guide that you wish to visit Alcatraz and how to go about visiting that sight.
