Smithsonian American Art Museum
With more than 42,000 pieces, the Washington, D.C. museum has one of the largest collections of American art in the world displaying works of 7,000 artists from the Colonial Era to the Modern Period. Smithsonian American Art Museum was founded in 1829 and together with the Renwick Gallery attracts approximately 1.1 million visitors per year. The museum's main building is the former Patent Office Building and a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
