Great Sand Dunes National Park

This national park is in the San Luis Valley in Colorado. There is evidence of humans in the area dating back 11,000 years. In the 1800s, there were gold and silver rushes here, which inclined residents to preserve it as a national monument in 1932. Since the early 2000s, it has been a national park. Today visitors can relax on the beach at Medano Creek or hike to the Sand Creek Lakes and Medano Lake. For a unique experience, rent sandboards and sleds to slide down the sides of the sand dunes.
