Red Mountains

The Red Mountains are a set of three mountain peaks in the San Juan Mountain range of western Colorado. The rocks are filled with iron oxide, giving them their distinct reddish tint that sets them apart from the surrounding landscape. As the site of a silver boom in the late 19th century, a ghost town sits at the foot of the distinctive mountains reminding passersby of the area's history. Nearby Ouray, a former mining town-turned-tourist destination, greets visitors as they return from their summer hikes and winter ice climbs.
