The global market for elderly and disabled assistive devices was pegged at $12.37 billion in 2012. Mobility scooters are just one of the many assistive devices that are part of this market and which are changing the lives of the mobility impaired for the better. These devices have been credited with giving a new lease of life to people with disabilities and who were living lives wherein their disability dictated their life's choices. For some, this meant restricting their social life to the four corners of their homes and for others it meant depending on caregivers to move from one place to another.

But the use of powered assistive devices like power chairs and mobility scooters has allowed the disabled and elderly to come out of their shells and lead far more fulfilling lives. Manufacturers are coming out with a range of options that cater to the different requirements of people suffering from mobility issues. Say somebody wants to buy a mobility scooter, in this case they have a range of options to choose from such a Pride Go Go scooter and others.

One particular area where scooters have helped the mobility challenged immeasurably is vacations. Yes, you wouldn't believe it, but the truth is there are plenty of people who've actually decided to ignore their inability to walk properly and go on a vacation because of their trust in mobility scooters.

They're fast becoming the ideal assistive devices that will help you enjoy your vacation to the hilt, if you're suffering from a disability or mobility issues because of advanced age. Let's take a closer look at how they are impacting the vacations of the mobility challenged.

An Independent Vacation

Vacations are meant to be enjoyed, and that too enjoyed without worrying about your disability or whether can catch all the sights and sounds of the destination you'll be visiting. This is where a mobility scooter enters the picture. With such scooters, you don't really have to worry about arranging for an assistive device to help you move around. All you need to do, is disassemble your scooter, store it, and make sure it's transported with you to the place you're visiting. When you reach, dismantle it and start riding it. It's as simple as that.

A far more enjoyable vacation

Have you ever been on a vacation where you're worrying about different things every single minute of the day.? You're worried about the quality of the food? You're worried about the quality of the bed in your hotel and a myriad of different things that you feel are putting a damper on your vacation. If you're not a worry wart, you must have met people who for some reason or other aren't able to enjoy their vacations. Now think about a disabled person, the challenges he will face, which will typically center on his inability to move with ease. In this scenario, enters a mobility scooter that is a solution for this challenge. Imagine the difficulties that this scooter can solve. As can be imagined, the use of these scooters will help the user enjoy their vacation. If they're taking a beach holiday, they could ride their scooters along the beach to soak in the fresh air and sound of the sea. If they’ve heard, there is a nice little market near their hotel, they could visit it without really wondering how they wi
ll be able to visit it. There is very little doubt that mobility scooters will help you make the most of your vacation.

Leave you feeling fresh and energetic

A number of disabled people, especially those who are suffering from mobility issues because of their advanced age, have less stamina and muscle strength. What this means is they get tired easily and might have to put a lid on the number of attractions they are able to visit. This might also play a major role in whether they are actually able to enjoy their vacations or not. In such cases, it is a powered wheelchair, that comes to the rescue. There is very little effort required in riding these assistive devices and what's more this means you're not letting all the sightseeing take a toll on your body. This also means you feel more energetic and are able to enjoy your vacation all the more.

An Essential Part of your Vacation

Think of mobility scooters as a necessary part of your vacation, if you're suffering from mobility issues. If you don't own a mobility scooter or if you own one and don't want to take it along with you on a vacation, you can always rent one. But the key here is you must make sure, you're visiting a location that has these scooters available for rent. So, when you're planning your vacation, make sure that mobility scooters are available at the destination/s that are a part of your itinerary. If such scooters or similar assistive devices are unavailable, you could change your destination to suit your specific needs and requirements.

To Conclude

Mobility scooters have given a new lease of life to people whose first thought is to avoid a vacation because of their mobility issues. It's made the decision to take a vacation a whole lot simpler for these people because they no longer have to worry about their mobility issues. Ease of use, maneuverability, stability and reliability are the hallmarks of these scooters and is what makes them such a great choice for a vacation.

If you love to travel but labor under the misconception that all travel is expensive, you are with the majority of would be travelers. Luxury vacations are rather expensive but for the average traveler there are a number of opportunities to explore the world without breaking the budget. What it does take however is some advanced planning and a strategy to explore many different avenues in order to find the best deal.

Interestingly, finding that great deal can be part of the fun. With the evolution of travel booking which has moved almost completely to self-booking online through websites, the power to find a great deal fully rests in the hands of the tourist. The power to comparison shop using popular search engines allows even someone with minimal travel experience to find options and price shop different destinations, tour providers and amenities.

There are a few tips to help you save when you travel, and the majority of them cost only time and a little preplanning to shave much of the expense out of your vacation. We’ve put together some tips to help get you started.

Travel In Off-Season to Save

To start with, it is never a good idea to book a vacation in the middle of the hurricane or rainy season. We are not suggesting that you compromise on good weather or your safety in order to save money on your next trip. What we are highlighting is that there are peaks and troughs in the popular seasons where most people prefer to travel.

Expect to pay the highest prices for travel during:

The holiday season

North American summer holiday’s (when families choose to travel)

Spring break

During major events such as Olympics

To travel in the offseason means to avoid booking your vacation for any of the mentioned times where you will be paying a premium for traveling. Instead choose to schedule your vacation for less popular times of the year. For instance, if you are not travelling with children one of the best times to go abroad is in fact September. Why? Because anyone who is a parent will not be travelling at the beginning of the school year. Demand is low which creates excellent incentives to fill seats and rooms at popular destinations. Monitoring the peaks and troughs of demand for your favorite destination over a period of time will help you pinpoint the ideal time to plan your vacation and save.

Where to Stay and Play

Do you need to always stay in a four or five star hotel to have a satisfactory experience on your trip? The answer is no, but it also depends on where you are travelling to. For instance, many industrialized countries have excellent accommodations that start at the three-star rating and which cost a mere fraction of the fees charged at most high end hotels. And if your vacation is planned around several tours and day trips and you will not be spending a great deal of time at the hotel, you can save by lowering your standards somewhat for a clean, safe and pleasant accommodation that fits your budget instead.

Other ways to save on your travel accommodations include:

Choosing a double queen or two beds instead of a King or a suite. The standard rooms are always more affordable.

If you can live without the ocean view from your hotel window, you will save approximately 10% or more on the daily cost of your accommodation. If you plan to be busy you won’t be staring out the window anyhow and it’s a great way to shave some of the cost off your room rate.

Investigate online coupon websites and check out CouponsHQ for local discounts and incentives to make your stay even more affordable. You can also find great deals on local restaurants too, and merchandise from local retailers to make shopping and dining out more affordable.

Try to book in advance to get the best rates. Never go based on the published rates but ask about further discounts for early reservations. Hotels are often appreciative of early bookings and may extend an additional discount upon request.

Finding a Deal on Airfare

Invest some time preplanning your vacation and make notes on the most and least expensive times to fly to your chosen destination. Finding a cheap flight is more difficult with rising fuel costs and trimmed down service routes as Airlines struggle to remain profitable, however there are a number of methods that can help you get the best deal on your itinerary.

Fly economy and choose a chartered airline wherever possible.

Explore using air miles or other reward program miles to buy a ticket or significantly discount your itinerary. Partial points can be applied in most cases to make the flight more affordable.

Pack light! The rising cost of checked baggage fees can quickly increase the cost of your ticket by 10-15% more for packing overstuffed and heavy suitcases, or excessive baggage. Leave it at home and travel light to save.

Avoid travelling with pets wherever possible. While bringing the family dog on vacation or to visit family may seem like a great idea, it is rather stressful for your pet and it can add about 20% or more to the cost of your airfare round trip.

One of the biggest mistakes that travelers make when booking their own vacation is the assumption that the first deals or packages that they see will be the best price available. The opposite is actually true and the more expensive itineraries are the ones that are promoted more aggressively. It makes sense. So plan to do a little digging to find the best price and accommodation for your budget instead and pay less for your next vacation.

I took tour to Canada last week. Aside from the group I was with, who were very nice, the tour itself was horrible.
Aside from one hotel the other two were old and dirty.
They crammed so much in everyday that it could not be enjoyed. We had very little time at each stop 60-90 minutes. We had to get up at 5:30 am to get to our destination. It was ridiculous. I would have rather done 1/2 of what we did and enjoyed the site.
Sounds inexpensive but when you add all the extras up you might as well have taken a better tour!
