Petrosino Square

Formerly known as Kenmare Square and created in 1938, this Manhattan park was renamed in 1987 to honor of New York City Police Lt. Joseph Petrosino, who created effective new techniques in fighting organized crime and died in the line of duty in 1909 in Sicily and the many members of the Sicilian mob became suspects of his assassination. The park is bordered by neighborhoods of Little Italy, Bowery, Chinatown and SoHo.
