Muscle Beach
Southern California's original Muscle Beach is this Santa Monica State Beach site called "The Birthplace of the Physical Fitness Boom of the Twentieth Century." Muscle Beach was started in 1934 and many notable people have trained there including Jack LaLanne, Kirk Douglas, Mae West and Chester Yorton. It offers gymnastics and workout equipment such as chin bars, parallel bars, rings and a padded gymnastics area.
