Lenin's Mausoleum

Since 1930 the body of the "Father of the Revolution" Lenin has been preserved in his personal mausoleum in the Red Square. Completely preserved, the body has been visible to the public since his death. Architect Alexander Shchusev designed a pyramid made of red, black, and gray granite blocks to house the sarcophagus. The structure stands just before the Kremlin and imposes a strict code of respect while viewing the body.
