Novodevichy Convent

This serene religious complex sometimes called New Maiden's Convent along the Moscow River contains the impressive Smolensky Cathedral, a Necropolis and Novodevichy Cemetery. Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524 to celebrate the takeover of the City of Smolensk from Lithuania. Many famous Russians including Denis Davydov, Nikita Khrushchev and Boris Yeltsin are buried in the cemetery.
