José Martí Memorial

On the northern side of the Plaza de la Revolucion stands the Jose Marti Memorial in honor of the country's national hero and major figure in Cuba's independence. 358 feet tall the tower took 5 years to build, beginning in 1953 on the 100th anniversary of Jose Marti's birth. A statue of him rests at the towers base. Within the tower are various rooms tourists may visit that feature the history of Jose Marti's life, the history of the plaza, contemporary art, and a staircase to the top where they can enjoy a panoramic view of Havana.
