Garden District

Known for its spectacular collection of historic Southern mansions, this New Orleans neighborhood contains homes built from 1832-1900 as the city prospered. The Garden District was first mainly plantations until it became part of the City of Lafayette in 1833 and then joined New Orleans in 1852. The U.S. National Historic Landmark earned its name from the gardens that surround the manors. Famous Garden District residents include Anne Rice, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman, Nicholas Cage and the Manning family.
