Fenner House

Jefferson Davis was Confederate States of America president during the Civil War lasting from 1861-65. Though he was defeated by the Union, he was still a Civil War hero to many Southerners. He first refused to accept the Reconstruction Era and later encouraged Southern residents to accept the Union. Davis also wrote a book "The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government" published in 1881 to mend his reputation. He died at 81 on a trip to New Orleans at the home of Louisiana Supreme Court Associate Justice Charles Fenner on Dec. 6, 1889.
