Fisher Island
At one time this three-mile island off the coast of Miami, Florida only served as a home to the wealthy Vanderbilt family and now has developments of a resort, marina and observatory as well as mansions and apartment buildings. The island was established in 1905 and construction began in 1919 when its namesake developer Carl A. Fisher purchased it. The affluent island paradise is home to celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Mel Brooks and Boris Becker.
