Dam Square

The historic center of Amsterdam, expansive Dam Square is home to the neoclassical Royal Palace, Gothic Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), the National Monument, and, most uniquely, a Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. A major transportation hub, the square is just south of the Centraal Station and is an important hub for city's trams. Every year on May 4th the citizens of Amsterdam celebrate National Memorial Day here, and there are other fairs held here during the Christmas season and King's Day.
