City of Ten Thousand Buddhas

One of the largest Buddhist communities in the Western Hemisphere is this area located in Talmage in California's Mendocino County. The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas was established in 1974 by prominent Buddhist leader Hsuan Hua and follows Guiyang Ch'an School. It is one of the first Chinese Zen Buddhist temples in the country and is located on more than 80 acres. Notable sites are The Jeweled Hall of 10,000 Buddhas, Dharma Realm Buddhist University, Great Compassion Courtyard, Bell and Drum House and Organic Farm.
