Built in honor of the Virgin Mary, the Los Angeles Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels was designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo in 2002 with a postmodern style, hoping to establish a public space featuring plazas, staircases, colonnades while maintaining a Cathedral aesthetic. Beneath the Cathedral rests a mausoleum containing 1,270 crypts that house a variety of Los Angeles bishops, sculptor Robert Graham who designed the bronze doors, and actor Gregory Peck.
