Baton Rouge

The Louisiana state capital situated along the Mississippi River is also its largest city and means "red stick" in French. Baton Rouge was established in 1719 as a French military post and many of the Acadians expelled from Canada by the British settled here in 1755. Today, it home to Louisiana State University and Southern University. Other points of interest are the Old and New State Capitol buildings, Capitol Park Museum, Louisiana Naval museum, Mall of Louisiana, Baton Rouge Zoo, Magnolia Mound Plantation House and the Nottaway Plantation.
