The United States Mint Production Facility in Philadelphia was constructed in 1969 and the Pennsylvania city was the site of the first ever government mint constructed in 1793. It produces coins of all denominations and special commemorative pieces as well as special dies for stamping coinage. Visitors can hear the history of American currency, watch money being made and view rare and out-of-circulation coins as well as an original coining press.
