This 3.8-square-mile resort island on Lake Huron is a relaxing vehicle-free getaway and only accessible by boat. Mackinac Island was explored by the Europeans in the late 1600s and was an important site during the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. It is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
