San Francisco City Hall

The magnificent structure that opened in 1915 looks more like a palace than a government building with its domed roof, ornamental details and Parisian design. Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe and baseball star Joe DiMaggio were married in 1954 at this city hall, which was used to film many movies. The landmark also was the site of the 1978 assassination of city supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone by ex-city supervisor Dan White.
