Old Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey

The historic Monterey pier was built in 1845 by Thomas Larkin for incoming freight and passenger ships. Old Fisherman's Wharf was bought by the City of Monterey in 1913 because of the growing sardine industry and the pier quickly grew with many fish merchants, warehouses and a restaurant by 1920. Today, the wharf has many restaurants, stores and attractions. Whale watching, deep sea fishing and boating are popular activities among the many seals, sea otters and birds at the pier.
