The 10.6-square-mile whimsical coastal region that is part of the same unincorporated area in Monterey County as Pebble Beach contains many tree and plant species such as the Monterey pine, Monterey cypress, coastal live oak and Bishop pine. Del Monte Forest originated in 1880 as part of the Hotel del Monte resort in Monterey constructed by Southern Pacific Railroad tycoon Charles Crocker. Indian Village Park and its Gingerbread House are popular attractions.
