Heart Island

One of the almost 2,000 islands dotting the Saint Lawrence River, Heart Island is famous as the home of Boldt Castle. Construction on this magnificent structure began in 1900, consisting of an 120-room mansion, a Power house to generate electricity for the island, and Alster Tower, all which can be toured. Meant to be a gift for George Boldt’s wife, construction stopped in 1904 after her sudden death and was left unfinished and in disarray until 1977 when it was purchased and restored. Accessible by boat or ferry, Heart Island and Boldt Castle must be seen to be believed!
