Diamond District

Located in Manhattan, between West 47th Street and Sixth Avenue, is New York's Diamond District, home to 2,600 independent business, majority of them selling diamonds and jewelry. The Diamond District is one of the primary centers of the global diamond center and the primary area to shop for jewelry in New York. The district was created in the 1920s when dealers moved from a former jewelry district near Canal Street and Bowery. Most of the jewelry dealing are done in jewelry booths that secure a transaction with a traditional handshake and/or blessing called "mazel und brucha."
