Chinatown, Philadelphia

Located in Philadelphia's Center City, this mostly Asian neighborhood started in the 19th Century with many Chinese immigrants migrating to the Pennsylvania city to start businesses. Chinatown, Philadelphia received a wave of Chinese citizens in the 1960s. The Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corp. was created in 1968 after some portions of Chinatown were demolished to make room for new development. The ethnic neighborhood features many Asian restaurants, stores and other merchants. The Philadelphia Chinatown is highlighted by its authentic Chinese Friendship Gate at Tenth and Arch streets.
