Big Nickel

The Big Nickel is a replica of a 1951 Canadian Nickel that stands 30 ft tall and is located on the grounds of Dynamic Earth in Ontario, Canada. It is placed on a hill that overlooks the intersection of Municipal Road 55 and Big Nickel Drive in the Gatchell neighborhood. The Big Nickel was originally a contest submission that was submitted by Sudbury fireman Ted Szilva, as an idea for how to celebrate the Canadian Centennial. The Big Nickel was completed in 1964 and was modeled after the 1951 Canadian Nickel that was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.
