The USS Iowa was the lead ship of the Iowa class battleships and was the fourth in the United States Navy to be named in the honor of the state of Iowa. USS Iowa was launched in 1942 and served in World War II, it was the only ship of its class to have served in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship also served in the Korean War and also went through refresher training under the Shakedown and NATO exercises. The battleship was decommissioned in 1990, and was later donated to the Los Angeles-based non-profit Pacific Battleship Center, later permanently moved to the Port of Los Angeles in 2012, where it functions as the USS Iowa Museum.
