The aesthetic Downtown Los Angeles landmark surrounded by palm trees and fountains is an important transportation center for Southern California providing train and bus services. Union Station was mainly designed by father and son John and Donald B. Parkinson combining the architectural styles of Dutch Colonial Revival, Mission Revival and Streamline Moderne. It opened in 1939 and is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. More than 60,000 people pass through the station per day. Union Station has been featured in many movies including the 1950 film "Union Station."
