The Dakota

The beautiful historic co-operative apartment building overlooking Central Park in Manhattan's Upper West Side is the residence of celebrities and other wealthy individuals. The Dakota was constructed from 1880-84 and designed by the architectural firm of Henry Janeway Hardenbergh. Beatle John Lennon lived there and was assassinated in front of the apartment building in 1980. Other well-known people that have lived in this U.S. National Historic Landmark include Lauren Bacall, Leonard Bernstein, Rosemary Clooney, Connie Chung, Judy Garland, Gilda Radner and Joe Nemeth.
