42nd Street

42nd Street is a Manhattan crosstown street that is home to many theaters and famous buildings. 42nd Street is also known as the theater district and is near the intersection with Broadway. The street is home to some of the most renowned buildings, such as the Chrysler Building and the United Nations headquarters building, and is also near Times Square. 42nd Street was once known for its many peep shows and grindhouse theaters during the mid to late 20th century. The area went under a clean-up during the 1990s, with the city government buying some of the theaters in the district and the Walt Disney Corporation which bought the New Amsterdam Theatre which was later renovated. Since the clean-up and renovations, 42nd Street has been an area with many theaters, shops and restaurants.
