About Washington National Cathedral

Officially called the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the exquisite landmark welcomes all faiths and is a spiritual place where the nation visits in times of celebration, crisis and mourning. The first stone from a field close to Bethlehem for Washington National Cathedral was laid in 1907 and construction wasn't fully complete until 1990. It was opened in 1912 as Bethlehem Cathedral and had many historic events happen within its walls including Martin Luther King Jr.'s last Sunday sermon and the funerals of U.S. presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.
