About Vienna State Opera

Relish a first-class production at the Vienna State Opera or tour the decorative building. The opera house opened in May 1869 with Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth in attendance for Mozart’s “Don Juan.” Today it is one of the most distinguished opera houses in the world, with the largest repertoire. Upon entering, appreciate the series of frescoes on the veranda that depict "The Magic Flute." Moritz von Schwind’s frescoes continue into the foyer, which survived war bombings in 1945. Tour these, the Tea Salon, Marble Hall, Main Staircase, Gustav Mahler Hall and the auditorium.
