About United States Naval Academy

Offering higher education for the United States Naval service men and women, the four-year college located in Annapolis, Maryland was founded in 1945. The 338-acre United States Naval Academy campus often called "The Yard" is where the Severn River enters Chesapeake Bay and contains many monuments, buildings and halls. One memorial to Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones motivates many academy students with its inscription "I have not yet begun to fight." The U.S. National Historic Landmark is visited by more than one million people every year. Famous graduates include U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Sen. John McCain, astronaut Alan Shepard, physicist Albert Michelson, NBA star David Robinson and World War II Capt. David McCampbell.
