About Twentynine Palms

This Southern California city within the Mojave Desert is home to the popular attraction Oasis of Mara in Joshua Tree National Park. Twentynine Palms was named after its palm trees in 1852 by Col. Henry Washington. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center is a large military base located right next to the city. Twentynine Palms is nicknamed "Gateway to Joshua Tree National Park" and "A Beautiful Desert Oasis."
