The beach side shopping complex lined with palm trees in Downtown Santa Monica offers plenty to see and do with stores, restaurants, cart vendors and many street performers. Third Street Promenade was created in the 1960s as a pedestrian-only Santa Monica Mall with a Frank Gehry-designed shopping center added during the 1970s and the name changed in 1989 to Third Street Promenade. It offers a large farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
