About Sonoma

The California Wine Country city incorporated in 1883 played an important role in the development of The Golden State as its Sonoma Plaza was the site of the 1846 Bear Flag Revolt declaring freedom from Mexican rule and establishing the California Republic. Franciscan monks first planted vineyards at Sonoma's Mission San Francisco Solano in 1825 to make wine. The city also hosts a film festival every year. Other notable landmarks are Sonoma City Hall, Sonoma Barracks, Blue Wing Inn, Sebastiani Theatre, Toscano Hotel, Vallejo Estate and Bear Flag Monument.
