About Santillana

This picturesque town has a long and storied past, as told by its remarkably well-preserved old town. One of the most visited places in the Cantabrian region, the medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and the lack of automobiles in the town center recalls days gone by. The Church of Santa Juliana is particularly stunning, its Romanesque architecture and important monastic tradition dating back to the 12th century. Numerous museums, palatial homes, and medieval towers dot the town and are all worth a visit. The famed Altamira Caves, with their prehistoric cave paintings, are located just minutes outside of town.
