About Sanctuary of Loyola

This collection of venerated buildings was built on the site of the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order. The Sanctuary of Loyola is a place of pilgrimage that includes a basilica, shrine, and an art museum that displays some of the belongings and writings of the saint. The house where he was born in 1490 is preserved in one of the two wings of the sanctuary.
