Don’t let the name fool you, rural Rust is anything but rusty. In fact, it is one of Austria’s most charming little villages and is famous for its wines, especially ice wine. Due to its location on the shores of Lake Neusiedl, it is also known for lake storks that roost on Rust’s rooftops and chimneys. Due to its diminutive size, Rust does not have much to offer attraction-wise, but its centuries-old church is worth a visit, if for no other reason than to climb its tower for a bird’s-eye view of the storks.
