About Indiana State Museum

The Indiana State Museum is located within River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana. The museum features science, art and cultural exhibits that display the history of the state of Indiana. Some of the material displayed at the Indiana State Museum dates as far back as prehistoric time. The original collection of artifacts displayed at the Indiana State Museum began in 1862 during the Civil War. There are more than 425,00 artifacts displayed at the Indiana State Museum, some of them also featuring Native American and natural world history. The museum has three floors and has more than 40,000 square feet of space. The Indiana State Museum is also home to the "92 County Walk," an art experience that spotlight's Indiana's 92 counties by featuring an original representative piece for each county.
