About Great Salt Lake Desert

This unique dry lake area in Northwest Utah contains the notable Lake Bonneville Salt Flats and is a remnant of the great prehistoric lake that used to cover approximately 20,000 square miles of The Great Basin. The Great Salt Lake Desert spreads 4,000 square miles from the Great Salt Lake and the Utah-Nevada border. Several mountain ranges as well as the United States Air Force's Utah Test and Training Range are located within the desert. The flat shimmering white plains are popular with tourists and high-speed racers.
