About Girona

One of Catalonia’s most distinct and historical cities lies just 60 miles from Barcelona. Girona was founded by the Romans, became a Moorish stronghold, and later withstood three invasions by Napoleon’s troops, earning it the sobriquet “the City of a Thousand Sieges.” Today this peaceful city on the Onyar River is renowned for its labyrinthine Call, Catalonia’s best-preserved medieval Jewish quarter with its narrow and steep alleyways and ancient stone houses.
