About Convent of Christ

One of Portugal’s most venerated religious buildings is this UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tomar. The Convent of Christ was originally a Knights Templar stronghold that was built in the 12th century. Today the 16-sided Templar church retains its chapels, cloisters and choirs and dominates the complex, as it is thought to be an imitation of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
