About Christ the Redeemer

This magnificent Art Deco statue overlooks the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro situated on top of 2,300-foot Corcovado Mountain. The Christ the Redeemer Statue is 98 feet tall atop a 26-foot tall pedestal. It was built between 1922-31 and represents the strong Christian faith of Brazilians. The statue was designed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by artist Paul Landowski. It was named on of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
