About Bureau of Engraving and Printing

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing occupies two buildings in Washington, D.C. and offers tours of its facilities that discusses the process of printing money and what steps are taken to prevent fraud. The visitor's center features exhibits and sells currency souvenirs. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing got its start in 1862 and became the only production organization for U.S. currency in 1877. The bureau's main building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
